Monmouth County Cotillion Committee

About Us

The Monmouth County Cotillion Committee (MCCCI) is a 69 year old, all-volunteer, 501c(3) organization established to:

  • motivate and manifest the idea of achieving higher education in minority youth
  • contribute scholarship funding to deserving senior students either graduating from a Monmouth County, New Jersey High School (or residing in Monmouth County)
  • promote moral, spiritual and academic growth in young people
  • honor and present students who are achieving their goals on the highest levels in a “Debutante and Escort Scholarship Cotillion Ball”.

MCCCI has awarded over $1.8 mil to Monmouth County, NJ college-bound minority students in its 69 years. We provide an intensive 4-month program that provides exposure and education in Etiquette, Presentation, Poise, Public Speaking, Career Options, Mentoring and Coaching, and Community Service Projects. Our extended circle of support includes Monmouth County professionals who volunteer their time to conduct Empowerment Sessions and commit to ongoing, life-long One-on-One Mentoring relationships. The program culminates with our iconic Scholarship Ball where we honor and present the students, recognize their achievements, award scholarships and enjoy them waltzing with their presenters and displaying their talents attired in beautiful white ball gowns and formal tux.

MCCCI was founded in 1949 by pillars of the Monmouth County, NJ minority community in consultation with Mrs. Lillian Sharp-Hunter of the Amsterdam News. Our first Scholarship Cotillion Ball was held on April 28th, 1950 in the Asbury Park High School auditorium before an audience of 500 people. In 1954, we moved to the Sea Girt Inn and from 1955 through the mid 80’s, to Convention Hall in Asbury Park. Because of convention Hall’s deterioration, we held the event at multiple venues including local high schools and The Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, and have continually sought to maintain the Ball’s original grandeur and elegance the students deserve.

In 2015, the Ball was held at the Neptune High School Performing Arts Center and on May 7, 2016, MCCCI celebrated the 66th Monmouth County Scholarship Cotillion Ball at the Sheraton Grand Ballroom in Eatontown, NJ.  In 2017, we are thankful to our partner and major sponsor, The Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch, NJ, that the 67th Scholarship Ball was held in their facility, allow not only the elegance and grandeur of the original Cotillions, but as importantly, a return to the ocean-front venue or our origin.  We look forward to returning to The Ocean Place Resort and Spa and sincerely thank the hotel’s management and owners for their continued support of the Monmouth County Scholarship Cotillion.  Their event sponsorship was critical in enabling us to award a record of$53,000 to our college-bound students.  With the continued support of all our sponsors, our goal is to double scholarship awards to $100,000 for our 2018 college bound seniors.

As the best-known social event in the minority community, our primary goals for the 2018 season remain to increase the number of students we serve and to increase the amount of scholarships we award.  Our committee has developed some very creative fundraisers and we are aggressively seeking corporate, individual and community sponsorships to help achieve our goals.  We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Two River Theater in Red Bank, NJ, Barbizon Modeling School in Red Bank, NJ, NJ Natural Gas, Hackensack-Meridian, and our anonymous, private corporate and individual donors.

MCCCI has touched thousands of lives and we expect 2018 to be one of the largest classes of young men and women in recent years as we continue to enhance preparedness of Monmouth County youth and counter the onslaught of misogynistic influences.
